Safeguarding migrant rights through open digital ecosystem (ODE) principles
Description
The presentation draws from Aapti Institute’s ongoing work on data infrastructures for mixed migration, reflecting on emerging insights through primary and secondary research conducted across three research case studies: the forced displacement of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar to Bangladesh; the economic migration of Nepalese workers to India; and Indian students traversing to Germany for higher education. By being anchored in these case studies, the presentation examines the untapped potential of data that can be harnessed through design principles of open digital ecosystems (ODEs) to enable diverse actors to
a. Innovate anticipatory tools to forecast migration movements while safeguarding the rights of people on the move
b. Mitigate harms in the implementation and usage of technologies by relaying agency to migrant communities
