Continuous Directional Room Impulse Response Measurements

Description
Measurements of high order directional room impulse responses (DRIR) applying sequential loudspeaker array measurement techniques usually take a long time. The acoustical properties, especially of large rooms (e.g. concert halls, event spaces), can be subject to significant changes during the measurement. These changes can render sub-sets of the measurement incompatible to each other, preventing the composition of a complete DRIR. Hence, it is desirable to speed up the measurement process while maintaining the DRIR order and signal quality.
Continuous measurement methods offer a faster approach for directional measurements than sequential techniques. However, they are currently most widely applied under ideal lab conditions (e.g. HRTF and general directivity measurements). Continuous measurement techniques for DRIR measurements, their relevant parameters, their real-world applicability and speed-up, as well as their impact on the signal quality will be presented.
