PADMICA Literature review on the adaptation of international students and intercultural competence

In this literature review for the PADMICA project, we aim to introduce relevant literature on the adaptation of international students and intercultural competence.

Chapter 1 provides a background on international students and discusses the necessity of pre-mobility preparation and post-mobility intervention.

Chapter 2 introduces the literature on acculturation and the adaptation of international students, including their experiences upon returning home after studying abroad. This chapter explores the processes and factors that influence their mobility outcomes across various domains, laying the groundwork for understanding the role of intercultural competence.

Chapter 3 focuses on intercultural competence, examining its components, main theoretical frameworks, development, measurements, and programs aimed at promoting its development among international students.

Chapter 4 presents recommendations for planning and implementing intercultural interventions based on our literature review.
