Description

Thelcticopis telonotata Dyal, 1935

Fig. 26

Thelcticopis telonotata Dyal, 1935: 212, pl. 16, figs 141–145 (♀).

Type material. Syntypes unknown number of [immature?] ♂ and ♀, PAKISTAN: Punjab: Lahore, Lahore Cantonment [ca. 31°28’43.01”N, 74°25’19.85”E; 234 m a.s.l.], 1928–1929, collector unknown (whereabouts unknown; not examined).

Diagnosis. Cannot be given.

Distribution. Pakistan (Punjab) (Fig. 26).

Remarks. The syntype series of T. telonotata consists surely of an adult female specimen (with body length of nine millimetres), since an epigyne is shown in Dyal (1935: fig. 145). The male is listed in the text as having a body length of eight millimetres, but neither a male palp is illustrated nor described in the text. It might be that Dyal (1935: fig. 142) illustrated the labium and palp of an immature male, but the legend does not clarify this matter. However, the eye arrangement and the chelicerae shape, the shape of the labium and the gnathocoxae, the leg spination and relative lengths of the leg segments, the shape of the tarsal claw (Dyal 1935: figs 141–144) as well as the description of the colouration (“abdomen…white in colour and … covered with white hairs”) do not comply with any known species of Thelcticopis. Moreover, it cannot be stated with certainty that this species belongs to the family Sparassidae. Therefore, we consider this taxon a species incertae sedis.
