Challenges of Definition Extraction in Spanish Legal Texts

In this paper, we describe a preliminary experiment focused on definition extraction over Spanish legal texts based on a number of linguistic patterns and supported by an automatic term extraction tool. Through this experiment, we analyse current issues on the definition extraction task in general and, specifically, open challenges on the automatic identification of legal definitions in Spanish. As a result of this analysis, we also suggest various ideas on possible solutions to those issues and next steps in our work.
