Pseudochirulus larvatus

Description

Pseudochirulus larvatus (Förster and Rothschild 1911)

[Pseudochirulus] larvatus (Förster and Rothschild 1911), Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 6, 7: 337.

Type Locality: Papua New Guinea, Huon Peninsula, Rawlinson Mtns.

Vernacular Names: Masked Ringtail.

Synonyms: Pseudochirulus barbatus Matschie 1915; Pseudochirulus capistratus Matschie 1915.

Distribution: NE New Guinea (Huon Peninsula and eastern part of Central Cordillera).

Conservation: Common.

Discussion: Diagnostically distinct from SE forbesi, and separated by a sharp boundary between Wau and the Kratke Mtns (Flannery, 1994 a; Musser and Sommer, 1992), which strongly suggests that larvatus is specifically distinct.
