Nasua narica subsp. narica Linnaeus 1766, Syst. Nat., 12th ed., Vol. 1: 64.

Type Locality: "America", restricted by Allen (1879) to " Veracruz, Mexico "; Hershkovitz (1951) further restricted it to "Achotal, Isthmus of Techuantpec, Vera Cruz.".

Synonyms: Nasua narica subsp. bullata J. A. Allen 1904; Nasua narica subsp. isthmica Goldman 1942; Nasua narica subsp. mexicana Weinland 1860; Nasua narica subsp. nasica Winge 1895; Nasua narica subsp. panamensis J. A. Allen 1904; Nasua narica subsp. richmondi Goldman 1932; Nasua narica subsp. subfusca Tiedemann 1808; Nasua narica subsp. vulpecula (Erxleben 1777).
