Type Locality: "Sumatra (Raffles); Malacca (B.M.)," restricted by Pocock (1941 a) to "Sumatra.".
Vernacular Names: Hairy-nosed Otter.
Synonyms: Lutra brunnea Pohle 1920; Lutra lovii Gunther 1877.
Distribution: Indonesia (Sumatra, Borneo), Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Data Deficient.
