Type Locality: Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, "Theresopolis, Organ Mtns.".

Vernacular Names: Southern Three-striped Opossum.

Distribution: E Brazil.

Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.

Discussion: The Peruvian distribution given by Gardner (1993) was based on a similar, but undescribed species from Departamento Huánaco.
