Description

Solenodontidae Gill 1872

Solenodontidae Gill 1872, Smithson. Misc. Coll., 11 (1): 19.

Genera: 1 genus with 4 species:

Genus Solenodon Brandt 1833 (4 species with 2 subspecies)

Discussion: Dobson (1882 a:82) was the first to raise Gill's subfamily to family level. The inclusion of this family in the Soricomorpha may not be justified; see Asher (1999), Whidden and Asher (2001), and Asher et al. (2002).
