Discussion: Fossil Hylomys have been documented in Miocene sediments of Thailand (Mein and Ginsburg, 1997). The taxonomy of the extant species was partly revised by Ruedi et al. (1994). Frost et al. (1991) and Jenkins and Robinson (2002) included Neohylomys and Neotetracus in Hylomys, but both genera were retained as separate taxa by Corbet (1988) and Mein and Ginsburg (1997).
