Elephantulus rozeti (Duvernoy 1833)

[Elephantulus] rozeti (Duvernoy 1833), Mem. Soc. Hist. Nat. Strasbourg, 1 (2, art. M): 18.

Type Locality: Algeria, near Oran.

Vernacular Names: North African Elephant Shrew.

Subspecies::

Subspecies Elephantulus rozeti subsp. rozeti Duvernoy 1833

Subspecies Elephantulus rozeti subsp. deserti Thomas 1901

Distribution: Morocco; Algeria; Tunisia; W Libya.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Corbet and Hanks (1968:81) and Corbet (1974:6) recognized two subspecies but Kawalski and Rzebik-Kawalska (1991:299) did not recognize any subspecies based on Algerian material.
