Type Locality: Costa Rica, Limón Prov., Santa Clara.

Vernacular Names: Cherrie's Pocket Gopher.

Subspecies::

Subspecies Orthogeomys (Macrogeomys) cherriei subsp. cherriei (J. A. Allen 1893)

Subspecies Orthogeomys (Macrogeomys) cherriei subsp. carlosensis (Goodwin 1934)

Subspecies Orthogeomys (Macrogeomys) cherriei subsp. costaricensis (Merriam 1895)

Distribution: NC Costa Rica (see Hafner and Hafner, 1987; Hafner, 1991).

Conservation: IUCN – Lowered Risk (nt).

Discussion: Subgenus Macrogeomys. Revised by Goodwin (1946). Phylogeography examined by Demastes et al. (1996). May include matagalpae (M. S. Hafner, pers. comm.).
