Macaca leonina Blyth 1863

Macaca leonina Blyth 1863, Cat. Mamm. Mus. As. Soc.: 7.

Type Locality: Burma, N Arakan.

Vernacular Names: Northern Pig-tailed Macaque.

Synonyms: Macaca adusta Miller 1906; Macaca andamanensis (Bartlett 1869); Macaca blythii Pocock 1931; Macaca coininus (Kloss 1903); Macaca insulana Miller 1906; Macaca indochinensis Kloss 1919.

Distribution: Burma, coast (including Mergui Arch.), Thailand north of about 8°N, S Yunnan (China), Laos, Bangladesh, India north to Brahmaputra River.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Vulnerable.

Discussion: M. nemestrina species group. Considered a species separate from nemestrina by Groves (2001 c:223).
