Type Locality: Brazil, Rio de Janeiro.

Vernacular Names: Buffy-tufted Marmoset.

Synonyms: Callithrix (Callithrix) chrysopyga (Burmeister 1854); Callithrix (Callithrix) coelestis (Miranda Ribeiro 1924); Callithrix (Callithrix) itatiayae Avila-Pires 1959; Callithrix (Callithrix) petronius (Miranda Ribeiro 1924).

Distribution: SE Brazilian coast.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA and IUCN – Endangered.

Discussion: Subgenus Callithrix. Accepted as a species by Mittermeier et al. (1988) and Groves (1989).
