Description

Leggadina forresti (Thomas 1906)

[Mus] forresti Thomas 1906, Abstr. Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1906 (32): 6.

Type Locality: Australia, Northern Territory, Alexandria (for additional information, see Mahoney and Richardson, 1988:158).

Vernacular Names: Forrest's Leggadina.

Synonyms: Leggadina berneyi (Troughton 1936); Leggadina messorius (Thomas 1925); Leggadina waitei (Troughton 1932).

Distribution: Inland Australia; W half of Queensland, NW New South Wales, N South Australia, S Northern Territory, and localities in far eastern part of Western Australia (Banks and Rushton, 1998; Reid and Morton, 1995; Robinson et al., 2000; Watts and Aslin, 1981). Populations in Pilbara region, including Thevenard Isl, once considered to be L. forresti, are now referred to L. lakedownensis (Cooper et al., 2003 a; Moro et al., 1998).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).

Discussion: Reviewed by Watts and Aslin (1981), Reid and Morton (1995), and Cooper et al. (2003 a).
