Globicephala macrorhynchus Gray 1846

Globicephala macrorhynchus Gray 1846, Zool. Voy. H. M. S. "Erebus" and "Terror", Vol. 1: 33.

Type Locality: "South Seas".

Vernacular Names: Short-finned Pilot Whale.

Synonyms: Globicephala brachypterus Cope 1876; Globicephala scammonii Cope 1869; Globicephala sieboldii Gray 1846.

Distribution: Worldwide: tropical and warm-temperate waters; cold-temperate waters of the N Pacific, where it appears to stray as far north as the Gulf of Alaska (Pike and MacAskie, 1969).

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (cd).
