Type Locality: Brazil, Mato Grosso, Rio Branco.

Vernacular Names: Lesser Spear-nosed Bat.

Synonyms: Phyllostomus ater Gray 1866.

Distribution: Bolivia, E Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia to Guianas and E Brazil.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
