Lophostoma brasiliense Peters 1866

Lophostoma brasiliense Peters 1866, Monatsb. K. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Berlin, 1866: 674.

Type Locality: Brazil, Bahia.

Vernacular Names: Pygmy Round-eared Bat.

Synonyms: Lophostoma minuta Goodwin 1942; Lophostoma nicaraguae Goodwin 1942; Lophostoma venezuelae Robinson and Lyon 1901.

Distribution: Veracruz (Mexico) south to Peru, Bolivia, NE Brazil; Trinidad.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc) as Tonata brasiliense.

Discussion: For synonyms see Jones and Carter (1979); but also see Gardner (1976). Hall (1981) listed nicaraguae (including minuta) as a distinct species.
