Desmodus rotundus (E. Geoffroy 1810)

Type Locality: Paraguay, Asunción (restricted by Cabrera, 1958).
Vernacular Names: Common Vampire Bat.
Synonyms: Desmodus cinerea D'Orbigny 1834; Desmodus dorbignyi Waterhouse 1838; Desmodus ecaudatus Schinz 1821; Desmodus fuscus Burmeister 1854; Desmodus mordax Burmeister 1879; Desmodus murinus Wagner 1840; Desmodus rufus Wied-Neuwied 1824.
Distribution: Uruguay, N Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, and N Chile north to Sonora, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas (Mexico); Margarita Isl (Venezuela); Trinidad.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
