Description

It has been believed for long time that trigonometry cannot be used to prove the Pythagorean theorem, as some trigonometric identities are considered as consequences of the Pythagorean theorem. However, this belief turned out to be wrong, because trigonometric identities can be proven without having to use the Pythagorean theorem. Trigonometric identities apply to all angle values or all real numbers, while the Pythagorean theorem is limited to right triangles and it does not have meaning for certain angle values where the trigonometric identity remains valid, for example zero. This reality has an impact on the need to review methods in presenting topics related to the Pythagorean theorem and trigonometry in mathematics  books and mathematics lessons, as well as methods and approaches in learning these topics.
