This article examines the evolution of the image of the “little man” in Russian literature of the 19th century using the example of the works of A.S. Pushkina, N.V. Gogol, F.M. Dostoevsky and A.P. Chekhov. The authors trace how the image of the “little man” changed depending on the ideological and artistic guidelines of the authors and historical realities.
