La Historia del Arte a través de las páginas de la Revista de Estudios Extremeños (1927-2015)

El estudio ofrece una síntesis historiográfica exhaustiva de los trabajos sobre Historia del Arte publicados en la Revista de Estudios Extremeños entre 1927 y 2015, organizando un corpus muy amplio que abarca casi un siglo de investigación regional. Su principal aportación consiste en clasificar cronológica y temáticamente los estudios, permitiendo identificar la evolución de las líneas de interés: arte prehistórico, romano, medieval, renacentista, barroco, así como la producción artística de los siglos XIX y XX. Se destacan contribuciones esenciales dedicadas a Luis de Morales, a los retablos extremeños, a la arquitectura religiosa, a la arqueología emeritense y al análisis de numerosos artistas locales y regionales. El artículo subraya el papel fundamental de la revista como espacio para la publicación de documentación inédita, estudios de archivo y análisis estilísticos que han permitido enriquecer el conocimiento del patrimonio artístico. Asimismo, muestra la coexistencia de trabajos pioneros de carácter descriptivo con investigaciones recientes más críticas y metodológicamente actualizadas. El resultado más relevante es la constatación de que la revista ha actuado como plataforma estable y esencial para la historiografía artística de Extremadura, contribuyendo de manera decisiva a la conservación, interpretación y difusión de su patrimonio a lo largo de casi nueve décadas.
Abstract (English)
This study presents an exhaustive historiographical overview of the art-historical research published in the Revista de Estudios Extremeños between 1927 and 2015, organizing a vast and diverse body of scholarship produced over nearly a century. Its main contribution lies in chronologically and thematically classifying the studies, thereby revealing the development of key research areas: prehistoric, Roman, medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, nineteenth-century, and twentieth-century art. The article highlights essential contributions devoted to Luis de Morales, Extremaduran altarpieces, religious architecture, the archaeology of Mérida, and numerous investigations on local and regional artists. It also stresses the journal’s role as a venue for the publication of unpublished archival documentation, stylistic analyses, and research that has substantially enriched the understanding of Extremadura’s artistic heritage. The study demonstrates the coexistence of early descriptive works with more recent scholarship grounded in updated and critical methodologies. Its most significant conclusion is that the journal has served as an indispensable platform for art-historical research in Extremadura, making a decisive contribution to the preservation, interpretation, and dissemination of the region’s artistic legacy throughout almost ninety years.
