Multi-tool dataset on Northern Eurasian Riverbank Migration (NERM)

Description

The NERM dataset presents the data from nine large river basins around Northern Eurasia, which includes rivers of the Baltic Sea, The Arctic and Pacific Oceans and the Caspian Sea, namely the Vistula, Volga, Ural, Ob, Nadym, Yenisey, Lena, Indigirka, Kolyma and Kamchatka catchments. The rivers included in the dataset comprise different environmental conditions and rivers with year-round average discharges ranging from 0.3 to 19,700 cms . In total, 23,000 km of small, medium and large rivers of Northern Eurasia using up to 70 years of data on water classifications from satellite images (LandSat and Keyhole) over 150,000 river channel reaches were analyzed in this study. The dataset captured information of channel erosion rates (average bank retreat rates [m/year]; maximum bank retreat value in meters per year [m/year]; average area of bank retreat [m2/year]; volumes of channel erosion [t/year]) and possible drivers (both hydrological and catchment parameters such as permafrost, natural zones and geology).
