CO2-SPICER - CO2 Storage Pilot In a CarbonatE Reservoir: R7.8 Feasibility study on applicability of seismic methods for CO2 plume monitoring
Description
A feasibility study evaluates the applicability of seismic survey as a monitoring tool for mapping the extension of the CO2 plume in the subsurface. Existing seismic data from the Zar-3 site and the available geological and petrophysical information were reevaluated. Forward modelling provided synthetic seismograms, which show that the seismic survey in the carbonate reservoir does not provide sufficient resolution to monitor the CO2 plume. Various seismic techniques like VSP or cross-hole are recommended. The study was subcontracted to Roman Pevzner, Perth University in Australia.
