The DIAMAS Common Access Point: a Suite of Tools and Resources to Support Institutional Open Access Publishing

Description

In the transition towards open access, institutional publishing is challenged by fragmentation, varying service quality, limited visibility, and sustainability. DIAMAS will facilitate the establishment of an aligned and sustainable OA scholarly communication ecosystem in the European Research Area. By supporting Institutional Publishers and Service Providers (IPSPs) DIAMAS helps to improve the efficiency and quality of institutional publishing. To this end, DIAMAS will design the Common Access Point (CAP), a virtual portal with resources and tools enabling the wider implementation of common standards and best practices across the OA publishing landscape. The Common Access Point will be realised as an infrastructure of interoperable components bringing together the main DIAMAS outputs (guidelines, toolkits, training materials) and providing links to external resources. Additionally, the CAP will facilitate the creation of a community of practice by developing a registry of Institutional Publishers and Service Providers and a knowledge exchange hub. The development of the CAP reflects the project’s commitment to openness and collaboration, as all DIAMAS partners and the project’s targeted stakeholders will be actively engaged in the conceptual design. Moreover, the portal will be based on open-source solutions and an extensible/open-end architecture, enabling the future integration of multilingual resources and additional components. The Common Access Point will lay the foundation for the future Diamond OA Publishing Capacity Hub – a virtual network of national and/or regional nodes supporting the research community towards the adoption of OA as a standard publication practice.
