Software Development Best Practices for the CIG Community

Description

Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics (CIG)

The CIG Software Development Best Practices are an outcome of a strategic planning retreat held in January 2014, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The document describes community best practices for software development at 3 different levels: Minimum, Standard, and Target. All codes that are part of the CIG community meet Minimum Best Practices.

This latest version 2.0 was the result of a virtual mini-hackathon event on March 29, 2024 attended by Brad Aagaard, Wolfgang Bangerth, Lorraine Hwang, Menno Fraters and Rene Gassmoeller.  It includes significant updates reflecting current practices of the CIG community and adds examples.

See our GitHub repo for the current version.
