The e-VITA project presents an innovative virtual coaching system aimed at facilitating active and healthy aging through personalized coaching. Central to its success is seamless interoperability among diverse devices, data sources, and AI technologies. This paper explores the project's groundbreaking efforts in interoperability and standardization, enabling a scalable ecosystem empowering older adults to lead healthier lives. The project addresses interoperability across three levels: device, data, and application, employing standards-based approaches such as REST APIs, WebSockets, and MQTT. Furthermore, it emphasizes data harmonization through JSON, NGSI-LD, and FIWARE Smart Data Models, enabling semantic interoperability. The paper highlights the project's contributions to standardization in Europe and Japan, particularly in ethical AI-human collaboration, personal data privacy, and service reliability. Future challenges include ethical assessments, collaboration with standardization bodies, and widespread adoption. By fostering collaboration and adherence to open standards, e-VITA sets a precedent for future smart living solutions, ensuring scalability, interoperability, and ethical AI-driven coaching experiences for aging populations globally.
