Description
Tribe Drilini Blanchard, 1845
Comments. Platia & Ghahari (2016) did not include Drilini in their work. This group was formerly considered a separate family, Drilidae, due to the “cantharoid” appearance, including the soft body, the loss of the clicking mechanism, and the presence of paedomorphic females which are in many aspects similar to larvae (Wittmer 1944, Crowson 1972, Lawrence & Newton 1995). Larvae are predators of land snails (Baalbergen et al. 2014, 2016). This group currently contains 150 species in 15 genera (Kovalev et al. 2019, Kundrata & Bocak 2019, Packova & Kundrata 2021, Hoffmannova & Kundrata 2022) and is classified within the subfamily Agrypninae (Kundrata and Bocak 2011, Douglas et al. 2021,). The Iranian fauna of Drilini was revised by Packova et al. (2021).
