Description
Training and outreach is a key priority as Common Fund Data Ecosystem (CFDE) engages the scientific community with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) integrated datasets and tools to empower and accelerate biomedical research. Accordingly, the Illuminating the Druggable Genome (IDG) Data Coordinating Center (DCC) led by the University of New Mexico has been funded in a pilot project to develop and deliver an online summer training course featuring CFDE resources. The course, suitable for motivated learners from undergraduates to experienced scientists, expands upon an existing Independent Study in Biomedical Data Science (ISBDS) format developed and offered at UNM since 2022. ISBDS-CFDE students will select from a menu of research plan templates to customize according to their interests, utilize CFDE resources and community standard data science tools, and produce a scholarly final report and poster with support and advisement from the course developers and administrators. Featured research plan templates will be derived from IDG use cases.
