Abstract: In this paper we seek to investigate the mention of Sacred Groves as a historical and cultural phenomenon in the works of several scholars, particularly environmental historians. We intend to emphasise the point that the importance of Sacred Groves have already been recognised by environmental scientists, botanists and foresters. The thrust of the argument in this paper is that this is a topic that deserves the attention of environmental historians.
