Description

Curculio misellus (Heller)

Balaninus misellus Heller 1927: 187

Type. India: Sikkim, Holotype male (SMTD).

Diagnosis. Oval; 2.75 mm (n = 1) in length; 1.55 mm in width (n = 1); thorasic disc with broad, to narrow, clavate, white and testaceous scales, with lateral macula of testaceous scales; elytra with confused vitta of narrow, clavate, white scales; disc of thorax and elytra flat in lateral view; scutellum longer than broad, large, clothed with cretaceous scales; elytra with crosshatched setae suberect, long, white anteriorly and testaceous apically; all femora unarmed. Genitalia: median lobe of aedeagus 0.5 mm (n = 1) in length, width 0.11 mm (n = 1), margins evenly rounded to apex dorsally, thin laterally, to sharply deflected, narrowly, acute apex; apodeme 0.4 mm (n = 1) in length (Figs. 69–71).

Distribution. India: Sikkim; China: Xizang Province, Jilong, 2,800 m.

Remarks. Similar to C. aino in size and coloration, but distinguished by unarmed femora, and male genitalia of C. aino being deflected toward apex, with C. misellus flat in lateral view.
