Description
The growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance represents an urgent public health threat globally, aggravated by the lack of awareness of this problem. This thesis focuses on the design of a multi-channel communication system aimed at raising awareness on the issue of resistance and promoting greater awareness on the responsible use of antibiotics.
The project is structured as a multi-step process, based on two touch points: a campaign with a paper poster integrating augmented reality and a mobile application, aimed at informing and actively engaging the target audience. The focus is specifically on a young female audience, which is particularly affected by urinary tract infections, a disease requiring the use of antibiotics, in order to improve understanding on three main topics: antimicrobial resistance, antibiotic consumption and urinary tract infections.
The information tool is materialized through a web app offering interactive content and a personal tracking section, which allows users to monitor treatments, symptoms and habits.
This multi-channel system increases awareness of the topic, promoting more effective communication and closer collaboration with one’s doctor.
The initial research investigated antibiotic consumption and antimicrobial resistance, with a focus on women’s health, digital healthcare tools and the younger generation’s approach to health. From the results of the theoretical research phase and the organization of a focus group, the need emerged for a tool capable of increasing personal health information in order to monitor one’s own data with greater awareness.
After the research phase, the design process explored solutions to the research questions. The decision to implement a multi-channel communication system was determined by the need to make the public aware of the impor- tance of the topic before educating them and, consequently, motivating them to action.
This project responds to the need to communicate medical issues by involving a young and female audience through an interactive solution. Possible future developments include the expansion of communication to other digital platforms.
