Description
Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Mulsant
Material examined. COLOMBIA: Santander: 10 ♀, 10 ♂ Bucaramanga, Barrio La Aurora, 07°07′35″ N, 73°07′00″W, 1010 m a.s.l., 10.i.2020, coll. J. Montes, ex Malvaviscus sp. [CTNI].
Notes. Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, commonly known as the mealybug destroyer, has a worldwide distribution (Kairo et al. 2013). This coccinellid has been shown to be an effective biological control agent for the control of PHM (Michaud 2002). In Colombia, it was mass reared and released in the department of Sucre to control outbreaks of PHM in teak, T. grandis plantations in 2009 (Villarreal et al. 2011; Kairo et al. 2013). Cryptolaemus montrouzieri occurs naturally in the city of Bucaramanga in the department of Santander where it is known to control populations of PHM.
