A PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF TAKAFUL AND CONVENTIONAL INSURANCE IN BAHRAIN

Abstract:

This research paper measures the efficiency of life insurance industry in Bahrain. While the major focus of this study is to compare the performance of takaful operators in comparison to conventional insurance during the period of 2009 to 2012. An indepth   review of available literature was undertaken   to gather sufficient relevant data to accomplish the purpose. The data has been collected from different secondary sources like reports and papers etc.  The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method has been used to examine the efficiency of life insurance industry in Bahrain with respect to takaful operators in comparison to conventional insurance. Finally, on the basis of the above analysis, the challenges and opportunities before the life insurance industry in Bahrain has been sketched out.
