Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite offers the world's first global survey of Earth’s surface water. It provides data for clean air and water, extreme events, and long-term environmental changes. As with all new technology, questions of this satellite’s viability have come into play. With data of each area of the Earth being collected on average every 11 days, our personally taken data can be easily compared with data from SWOT with little error due to day changes. In this study, we compiled our own field research on the area of Mammoth Lakes in California that SWOT simultaneously tracks using the latest radar interferometry technology and compared the results to determine the extent of the accuracy of different GPS systems.
