Description

[Sarcophaga (Sarcophaga) carnaria]

Musca carnaria Linnaeus, 1758: 596. Type locality: Europe [probably Sweden].

Remarks. Listed from SaudiArabia by Kenawy et al. (2014), but this is probably a misidentification as Sarcophaga carnaria so far has not been recorded south of the 40th parallel north (Pape 1996). The record of Sarcophaga carnaria from Saudi Arabia was accepted by Verves & Khrokalo (2018), but considering the nomenclatural complexities (Pape 2002), the numerous misidentifications in older material, and the lack of reference to voucher specimens by Kenawy et al. (2014), the presence of this species in Saudi Arabia is in need of verification.
