Description

This slide deck was presented at the Software Developer’s Workshop was held in Melbourne, Australia from October 17-18, 2007 for the Australia Bureau of Meteorology (BOM). The workshop targeted developers and focused on building custom modules, adding support for new data formats and new service protocols to, as well as extending the server to support server-side functions and other protocols. Developers learned how to enable client applications to access OPeNDAP data servers using several different client libraries.

Summary of the slide deck:

This presentation provides guidance on checking the server setup and troubleshooting common issues. It begins by detailing the location of server files on the virtual machine, such as the Tomcat servlet engine, BES, OLFS web archive file, and configuration files. The presentation then explains the steps to start the BES and Tomcat, verifying their functionality using both command-line tools like bescmdln and web browsers. Troubleshooting techniques are discussed, including the use of the getdap command-line client to request DAP response objects and telnet to view raw HTTP responses. Examples are provided for using getdap to retrieve DAS, DDS, data, and version information, along with instructions on using telnet to pass HTTP commands directly to the opendap web application. The presentation emphasizes the importance of understanding server setup and using diagnostic tools effectively to identify and resolve issues.
