About the workshop:
OPeNDAP and NOAA/PMEL held a joint tutorial/workshop at the Stennis Space Center from 28-30 September 2004. The workshop covered OPeNDAP's software, the operation of some of the clients and installation of servers as well as some of the DAP-compliant software developed at PMEL.
Here is the list of presentations from the workshop. All of the slide decks for these presentations are available on the Zenodo OPeNDAP community page.
- OPeNDAP Overview
- Matlab Client Use (short)
- Server Basics
- Server Installation
- Advanced Topics
- THREDDS, The Aggregation Server and Server Registration, plus two *.xml files that were used in the tutorial
- Ferret
- FDS
- LAS
- Relinking Programs with the NetCDF Client-Library (bonus; not presented at the workshop due to a lack of time)
Summary of the slide deck:
The presentation covers advanced topics related to the OPeNDAP protocol. It discusses appending suffixes to DAP URLs, highlighting exceptions where suffixes need to be explicitly added. Custom server development is briefly mentioned, emphasizing the need for programming expertise and understanding of the DAP's data model. The presentation also explores mapping DAP response objects to different client data models, comparing the DAP data model to typical client data models like Matlab and Ferret/netCDF. It discusses how to map DAP constructs like variables, structures, grids, and sequences to these client data models, addressing challenges and solutions for compatibility. Overall, the presentation underscores the importance of understanding the intricacies of data mapping to ensure seamless integration between the DAP and various analysis applications or data file formats.
