Description
A.Akhmatova's language was alien to verbosity and excessive flowery syllable. Her poetic style possessed a
balanced sense of proportion and careful lexical selectivity. The conciseness and capacity of Akhmatova's lyrical
phrase were combined with the deepest content. Lapidary formulations and precise definitions contained a huge
potential of feelings that did not directly spill out onto paper, but were perfectly conveyed to the read er, riveting
attention and mesmerizing with their genuine truth. In this sense, the poetic manner of A.Akhmatova can find
parallels in English lyrics. The English poet also proceeded from the fact that the artistic world of an individual,
the whole range of his tragic and joyful experiences are connected with the world of space, of which we are all a
part.
A.Akhmatova's translations into English made it easier for their authors in the sense that their content and
chosen artistic method were in tune with the English literary and cultural tradition. This tradition was expressed
in an appeal to the ordinary manifestations of the surrounding world and real life impressions.
Abstract (Russian)
Языку А.Ахматовой было чуждо многословие и излишняя цветистость слога. Ее поэтический стиль обладал взвешенным чувством меры и тщательной лексической избирательностью. Лаконичность и ёмкость ахматовской лирической фразы сочеталась с глубочайшей содержательностью. Лапидарные формулировки и точные определения содержали в себе огромный потенциал чувств, которые напрямую не выплёскивались на бумагу, но прекрасно передавались читателю, приковывая внимание и завораживая своей подлинной истинностью.
В этом смысле поэтическая манера А.Ахматовой может найти параллели и в английской лирике. А нглийский поэт также исходил из того, что художественный мир отдельного человека, вся гамма его трагических и радостных переживаний связаны с миром космоса, частицей которого все мы являемся. Переводы А.Ахматовой на английский язык облегчали задачу их авторам в том смысле, что по своей содержательности и избранному художественному методу были созвучны английской литературной и культурной традиции. Эта традиция выражалась в обращении к обычным проявлениям окружающего мира и реальным жизненным впечатлениям.
