Description
FIGURE 2. Chronogram for the Scarabaeinae of the Mexican Transition Zone and related geographic areas (North, Central and South America). Node numbers represent posterior probabilities. Node bars show time uncertainty by means of 95% HPD. Major geological and climatological events related to the MTZ conformation are shown (modified from Mastretta-Yanes et al. 2015). The main lineages of Scarabaeinae appeared during the Eocene-Oligocene, before the MTZ had reached its current geographic configuration. During the Miocene, the greatest stage of diversification was seen and the orographic systems of the MTZ reached their current configuration.
