Dataset related to article: "REVEAL: A Global Full-Waveform Inversion Model"
Description
This dataset contains computed seismograms using the tomographic model REVEAL (Thrastarson et al., 2024). The intention of this repository is to provide waveforms that can be reproduced and compared to other models. The 22 selected earthquakes in the magnitude range M6.2-6.9 are scattered around the globe. For a neutral assessment, synthetic waveforms are given for all seismic stations from FDSN services (Romanowicz and Dziewonski, 1986) operational at the time without any window picking. The complementary observational dataset can be acquired through the ObsPy download module (Megies et al., 2011; Krischer et al., 2015).
Synthetic waveforms on REVEAL are computed for the period band 33 - 200 s on wavefield-adaptive meshes (van Driel et al., 2020;, Thrastarson et al., 2020) with the spectral-element solver SALVUS (Afanasiev et al., 2019). Simulations consider topography, bathymetry and attenuation, and earthquakes are using the provided source-time function.
The included figures show a comparison of observed and synthetic wavefields at GEOSCOPE (Leroy et al., 2023) stations for a quick global overview of the waveforms generated by REVEAL within this dataset.
