The People and Culture of Akwa Ibom State

This chapter examines the People and Culture of Akwa Ibom State. The administrative areas, the history, demography, education and politics of Akwa Ibom State. The three major ethnic groups, the Ibibio, Annang and Oron are also discussed in detail. The history and origin of the Ibibio, Geography, location of Ibibio land, economy, political system, the pre-colonial religion as well as the colonial and post-colonial religion, written language and art form of Ibibio people are also discussed. The chapter went further to discuss the culture, the fattening room, oral and written history as well as written language and nationalism of the Annang people. The chapter concludes with history, culture and tradition, kingship, education, politics of the Oron people as well as the oil and gas and international airport located in Oron land.
