Description

The conference, entitled "Cyprian Norwid: Yesterday and Today. On the Bicentenary of the Birth of the Poet-Emigrant" was organised around three broad perspectives: Norwid as a human being, as a creator and as an emigrant. These perspectives provided an international view of Norwid as, among other things, the author of Vade-Mecum and a socio-political thinker, philosopher, polemicist, and analyst of his time. It also examined Norwid's work in the context of literature and art, considering his legacy in terms of translations and inspiration for other artists in the modern era. The conference also explored Norwid's presence in the foreign press, highlighting how his creativity was perceived by Polish emigrants and other foreign circles. Finally, the conference discussed Norwid's place in contemporary Polish education abroad, focusing on how the works of the poet and artist are incorporated into current Polish education.  The conference programme and speaker biographies are included in this Book of Abstracts.
