Description

The dataset comprises a portion of the Collaborative Seismic Earth Model (CSEM Generation 2, Noe et al. (2021)), the input for the vs-conversions in the article "Density and strength variations in the mantle lithosphere and the distribution of intraplate earthquakes". CSEM is a collection of regional seismic tomographies consistently combined into a single global tomographic model.  Within the CSEM framework, submodels employ full-waveform inversion, a seismic imaging technique that efficiently utilizes complete seismogram records by repeatedly solving the elastic wave equation. (e.g. Tarantola (1984), Fichtner et al., 2006). In the study area (11°W to 16°E, 45° to 60°N), “CSEM Europe” combines information from previously published models and the global CSEM inversion (Fichtner et al. (2018), Noe et al. (2021)). The model explains seismic wave propagation to a minimum period of 25 s in the area. "CSEM Europe" contains information on the anisotropic components of shear-wave velocity (vertical vsv and horizontal vsh).
