Description

The westIvoriancoastis a fishing zone whichcapitalizes four large departmentswhichconstitute landing centers for freshfisheryproducts in significantquantities. This sectorconstitutes a major source of fishconsumption due to itsdemographicdynamics. Indeed, from 1,227,464inhabitantsin 2014 (RGPH, 2014) the population size of all of thesedepartmentsincreased to 1,521,704 inhabitants, an increase of 24%. However, the observation of the scarcity of freshproducts on local marketsis a reality. This contribution aims to analyze the distribution of types of fishproductsthatpassthrough local markets. It isbased not only on the characteristicelements of the markets but also on the direction of flows in quantitative and qualitative terms.The data collection methodisbased on documentaryresearch and a fieldsurvey. The literature has made it possible to situate the role of markets and the games of distribution players, and to understand the difficultieslinked to access to fisheryproducts. In the field, production statistics (2020-2022) werecollected. A focus group wascarried out with 30 fish traders based on 5 people in the 6 marketsselected for the study. This same quota wasapplied to the collection of data fromfishermen.The markets of the westIvoriancoast are characterized by the distribution of smoked and frozenfishproducts. An intense distribution of fresh local peachesoutside the departments to the detriment of local marketsis a reality.
