Pixel-Based Long-Term (2001–2020) Estimations of Forest Fire Emissions over the Himalaya

Description

The research project aimed to construct a pixel-based emissions inventory of various pollutants (CO, CO2, CH4, NOx, SO2, NH3, PM2.5, PM10, OC, and BC) from forest fires over the Himalaya (including India, Nepal, and Bhutan). The inventory was developed using MODIS-based burned area data (MCD64A1), Land Use Land Cover information (LULC; MCD12A1), NDVI (MOD13A2), percentage tree cover (MOD44A6), gridded biomass data, and species-specific emission factors.  Emissions estimates were calculated for the period 2001–2020, employing a bottom-up approach at a geographical resolution of 1 km × 1 km on a monthly basis. The unit of the dataset is Teragrams (Tg). The dataset is defined in the WGS84 projection system.
