Digital language and communication competences for scientists' professional development

  • 1. University of Zaragoza

Description

Communicating science beyond expert audiences has been recognized as a key societal priority. Yet, today resources and training designed to enable scientists to reach wide audiences on the Internet, using language and communication strategies, are lacking. The goal of the “Digital language and communication training for EU scientists” (DILAN), an Erasmus+ project partnership, is to provide training to EU scientists to support their ability to digitally communicate their research results. More specifically, its objective is to help them develop language and digital skills to better communicate their science to society.

In order to provide empirically-informed innovative learning experiences, the DILAN project proposes a three-stage intervention. First, to identify learning needs in digital science communication. Secondly, to create online learning activities and develop two online courses and a MOOC, and finally, to implement and validate the quality of the learning and the assessment of the learning outcomes (i.e. certified assessment of language competence and digital competence). By this means, DILAN is expected to contribute to digital transformation through the development of digital readiness, resilience and capacity in STEM/STEAM in higher education, solving this problem by creating digital resources to address it.
