Mugil dobula — Macleay 1878: 364 (Port Darwin); Zietz 1891: 2 (Northern Territory).

Mugil cephalus — Thomson 1954: 91 (Darwin); Larson and Williams 1997: 364 (Port Darwin).

It is uncertain what species is represented by Macleay’s record, which has been cited by others. The species is not known from NT waters.
