Description

The Tea Bag Index database containing the mean k_TBI and S_TBI, as well as the map derived pixel values used to create the global maps of k and S as described in  It gathers all the available data on tea bag measurements under ambient coditions using the standardized Tea Bag Index method and woven (nylon) tea bags. Ambient is defined as without small scale management or treatment. Further details are described in Reading tea leaves worldwide: decoupled drivers of initial litter decomposition mass-loss rate and stabilization. by Sarneel et al., (2024). More information can also be found on www.teabagindex.org

In short, the Tea Bag Index is calculated from mass loss of rooibos and green tea bags incubated in the soil at 8cm depth for 45-135 days and is described in detail by Keuskamp et al., (2013).
